Custom Paper: Example of Apocalyptic Literature
Having written and discussed on the background and the interpretation of 1 Enoch, the author then moves to another historical figure. In chapters 4 and 5, he moves on to look at the book of Daniel. These two chapters are very significant in the book as they give information about the story on Daniel, who was the only example of apocalyptic literature that ever existed in the Hebrew Bible.
As Collins describes in chapter 4, Daniel was written during the period of Antiochus Epiphanes. This period was as early as the 3rd century. The Antiochus Epiphanes had been brought forth by the neo-Platonic philosopher who was known as Porphyry. Porphyry has set down a proposal which stated that since Daniel prophesied the nature of occurrence of the events up to the time of Antiochus Epiphanus, but did not offer a prophesy of what would happen thereafter there is no way that this prophecy could then be dated during the Babylonian exile.
